HEREBY NO ONE * recommended *:: Carlis Star ::
19 March 2007 / Demo / 3 Trk CD
By Manuel Ecostos
Six piece outfit Carlis Star, based around brothers Simon and Alf Cowan dutifully follow up last summers “The Fight Inside” with a trio of new songs marked by what seems a refreshing review of the bands outlook and overall song delivery. “Hereby No-One” is bothersome pop, niggling away with astute melodies and carefully constructed chords. It all drills a way into your head with warm, lush grinds of guitar and multi-part harmonies. “Bread Making Bees” is actually part of their last demo revisited but with such a brilliant song, why hide it?. “Weak Invincible” reveals a rockier hand, twisting and turning around rolling riffs and the three way vocals. Carlis Star are something a little different – persuasive hooklines, noisy but refined guitars and a smoothly delivered repertoire - If we’re looking for something different to champion in 2007 then this might just be it.
