SANDMAN MAGAZINE - MAY 2007

Much like fellow local popsters Polytechnic, the zesty Carlis Star set about bringing dreamy (yet volatile) rays of sunshine through the Manchester clouds with big riffs battered around into tiny potent numbers, and what are seemingly lead vocals performed boys and girls en masse. Rays as old as time, beginning with The Kinks, troubled by Pixies and made to shine by The Spinto Band.

Unwavering optimism coupled with fuzzy punkpopping rock promises a pretty good gig time if you are in a similarly inclined mood. And if you're not, you need to be asking yourself why that is. Listening to Carlis Star on a demo seems the most natural way to do so, with the all the unrounded edges and such, but assuredly we'll be seeing the day that studio magic turns up the heat for these ragamuffins.
